Nymphology

  • This Artwork is called Nymphology. A Nymph is a spiritual creature that is ranked only a bit below a god. To be called a Nymph is to be a beautiful young woman, beauty in my eyes is to be natural. Body hair, extra fat, and unkempt hair. I love the natural human body and for a spirit to be associated with nature she is what I call perfect. Now; I have this amazing fascination with fantasy and Greek gods and goddesses. So much so that I went ahead and read the entire Odyssey by myself. There was this one Nymph/Goddess that caught my attention. Her name was Calypso. She fell in love with, Odysseus, the main character in the book, she never knew the meaning of love even though she was immortal. However, our main character- Odysseus, could never reciprocate her feelings because his wife and child were waiting for him. No matter how hard she tried he just wouldn't. Eventually, she let him go because she understood that she couldn't make someone fall for her. This made me think that she was more human than a goddess because she didn't feel rage- she could have killed him if she wanted to, but all she did was cry and let the one person she ever loved go. That story alone inspired me to make this piece of artwork.

  • Creativity means freedom to me. It is also one of the hardest things to get a hold of. I don't think people can be born with it, you may have a touch but unless you work hard and train your brain to be creative, then you simply can't be free.
