• Artist Statement

  The reason for this assignment was to create something using materials we had not previously experimented with.I took for granted the simplistic lines of pen and ink drawings when I was thrown into a medium that was far out of my depth. This oil pastel unit was definitely a learning experience for me, as I struggled with the permanence of the pastel and attempted to use color theory to convey the particular mood I wanted to bring to the piece. While working on the piece, I aimed to create a misty scene that represented the cold and heavy atmosphere of a misty rain. I imagine that this piece was taken from the perspective of a person who focuses on the beauty of reflections and color over the dreary world.

• Creative Statement

  Creativity is my gift to the people around me, and it's what my peers back give to me. I want to be able to use my art to show others how I view the world, and I wish others would use their art to show me their perspective as well.
