High Noon

"High Noon" is one of a series of songs I have written recently as I experiment with alternative storytelling in my songwriting. "High Noon" takes inspiration from Folk, Rock, and Country genres, and was an exciting song to write. While some of my songs are very literal in the emotional concepts they convey, others like "High Noon" are narratives with concepts buried deep into their core. Whenever I write a song, I start with my acoustic guitar and find a chord progression that catches my attention. As I play, the first few lyrics and melodies evolve into the first verse, but I often don't know what the story will be until the beginning of a song is written out in front of me. That's how it went for "High Noon," as the initial lyrics sparked my imagination and lead me to establish the setting, characters, and conflict. As I wrote, I discovered this mysterious female force that lingered in my melodies and watched behind the scenes. Her identity was only revealed to me as I wrote the outro, and realized she had been the one holding the gun. In this female character lies the root of the song, the foundation that expresses my own voice beneath the narrative. While the song "High Noon" is the story of crime in a small Western town on it's surface, it is truly an ode to hardworking women who are often overlooked in a male-dominated society.

Creativity means running with a thought. It means being inspired and then following that inspiration through to its final product, acknowledging that each mistake only makes the finished creation more genuine and vulnerable. Despite the age of AI, human imperfection and passionate curiosity is essential in the art we create.
