I wanted to capture the feeling of freefall: when an object falls under the sole influence of gravity, it no longer accelerates. I played with the concept that freefall is just the same as weightlessness and applies to human experience as well as physics. I find that people are afraid of falling, and while letting go is scary at first, there comes a moment where one feels tranquil, suspended in peace. More than falling, it is the fear of losing control that prevents us from allowing ourselves to fully let go. When we let go, we discover a different kind of force from within that holds us up, rather than gravity. When we attempt to fight against gravity, we can be worn out by its force. By letting go, we find a way to use its power to guide us. Giving up control can lead to better experience in some of our hardest moments. This girl is falling, yet she seems relaxed. This act of relinquishing control signifies a liberating moment where we experience a newfound sense of freedom. I am learning that giving up control is just as valuable as taking control. I want this piece to serve as a reminder to myself and others that it is our choice to let go of things we cannot control.

Creativity is not just the ability to create new and original things, but it is also the ability to view already existing things in a different way. Creativity paired with concept brings the experience of art to transcend a viewer’s experience beyond visual art into a personal and emotional connection.
