I make music in the Sunset Youth Center. This is a place for teens like me where I can go and express myself. I go there after school and I can hang out and write music and make the tunes on Logic or Protools music software. I can then record in the small studio there. It is a great place to hang out and do my homework too. I have made many friends there of my age who are also into making music which makes me feel like I belong.
I love to listen to songs and that inspired me to make the song “Video Game”. For the song video game, I first came up with the tune. I was so happy when the tune came together that I cried. Then I started writing the song about another thing that makes me happy, playing Roblox on my phone. I wanted to talk about why I play video games, its because I am lonely sometimes. Finishing the song took me about 3 months of working on it every week. Finishing it made me feel proud of the work I have done. Also, I have told my friends about it and it makes me feel very happy every time my friends ask me to play the song. I feel I made more friends because of my song.
Whenever I am in school, I feel like that school is not the right place where I could use my voice because I have difficulty speaking and making friends. Whenever I am not in school, like in the sunset studio, I use my voice freely without being judged by other kids. The kids in the studio also respect and support me.
What inspires me to make music is that whenever I hear great artists putting their feelings and songs out, that shows me that if I used all my focus on my work I could make it and show the world what I have got.
I love to work with people who love to make music together and I really like to meet new people who I find because of my songs.

I have a learning difference so I have difficulty expressing myself. That makes it hard to make friends which makes me sad. In 5th grade, I made music on garage band, and I continue even now. Expressing myself through music makes me happy. Making music also helped me find friends so I feel I belong.
