Vandalism

Samantha V.

  • My idea for this was to express my community using something that is not very noticeable within my city. Despite my address being from another city (I live in three different houses), I wanted this picture to represent who I identify with; Albany.

With a simple walk down down the famous street of Solano Avenue, I stumble upon something that I've passed multiple times. A small difference—a camera in my hand—forces me to look passed the familiarity to find something, anything to capture within my lens. Among the bustling life of this street lies this masterpiece which is mixed within the dull colors of the buildings around it. It's raw and imperfect compared to its surroundings. It bursts with life and tells the story of those who also found it and decided to leave a mark in case of being forgotten.

  • I value my creativity because I was oppressed from expressing myself before. Having the ability to openly explore my artistic side has greatly altered my life by relieving myself of my pent up emotions and channeling them into effort to fully represent who I am.
