Trapped From Luxury

Mila Y.

  • Through this artwork, I am asking myself "How does fashion culture lead to a feeling of isolation due to the inability to access items financially?" I am able to clearly answer this question in my artwork through the use of color and image placement. The color emphasized in this piece is blue, which conveys a feeling of sadness. Situating the subjects inside of windows shows that the human subjects are trapped/isolated from the flurry of fashion culture that surrounds the windows. I used photography, photoshop, and collage to create this piece. I edited a picture of sand into the background, behind the windows, and colorized the sand to be blue. Then, I scanned a collage overtop of the sand and masked out the blank space. Lastly, I colorized the entire image to blue. The title of this piece is "Trapped from Luxury."

  • Analyzing fashion culture, and its relationship with the location has broadened my understanding of the creativity that can be unlocked via wearable art. Through my art, I have explored the emotions of either acceptance or rejection that come with traversing local, niche fashion culture.
