To My Reader

Elspeth L.

  • This poem was written during the start of the Russo-Ukrainian War when the United States was hesitant to aid Ukraine in its fight for freedom to avoid causing world war. I was upset and felt that the U.S. wasn't doing enough. Of course, this can be extrapolated to a larger scale. Often, we are afraid to help others because we see too many things that separate us. In my writing, I call upon the reader to set aside differences between those in need and themselves in order to be a proper support system for others.

  • Creativity allows me to express myself through various different mediums. Sometimes, one aspect of expression may fail, and another may come through. I am fascinated by words in particular and how verbose writing may not resonate as much as concise language, which leaves more up to interpretation.
