The Produce Aisle

Hannah R.

  • In art class sophomore year we were assigned to paint a picture of a place. What drew me in about a grocery store were the rows and aisles of vibrant foods that went on forever, the bright lights, and the rows of linoleum tiles; the uniformity and stark cleanliness of a grocery store stood out. The store I painted isn’t any one particular store, but what was most important to me while making it was that it could be any chain grocery store you’ve been in before; yet it isn’t, it’s one I made up. Grocery stores are one of the most generic places you can go, but in my painting I wanted to bring one to life in an interesting and engaging way.

  • I’ve always loved being able to tell stories and put to paper what I imagine. I’ve been painting and taking art classes since I was 5, but in high school I feel like I’ve been able to find my style. Painting has allowed me to visualize things in my head on paper.
