The Oceans Are in Our Hands

Marco L.

  • My work "The Oceans are in Our Hands" is based on a photograph (left) I took in southern California. For the photo on the right, I used tools such as layers and adjustments in photoshop and photos by Ivan Tsyrkunovich of human garbage encountered near our waters to depict how much ocean life depends on human action to protect its home. The beautiful, innocent sea lions and birds captured in the photo (not to mention dolphins, otters, seals, whales, fish that are hidden under the surface) are all completely helpless and at the mercy of humans to stay healthy and alive.

I'm hoping to study Environmental Engineering in college. In my Climate Now Club, school newspaper, Wellkind internship, and AP Environmental Class, I'm trying to use various creative media such as my own nature photography, vlogs, blogs, posters to communicate and educate others as much as I can on how vital it is for everyone to be a caring steward of the earth.

  • The creative arts help me communicate to others the need for all of us to protect the environment. As president of Redwood High School Climate Now Club, intern for Wellkind, and a student in AP Environmental Science I find using my own nature photography, vlogs, blogs, posters are very impactful.
