The Evolution of the Color Brown

Kaia B.

  • One thing I pride myself on in my writing is writing about real experiences. I put hours of effort into making sure my characters and their dialogue are real, and that everyone can find reliability in my writing. But here in this piece, I wondered: hold on, what have we impacted, as humans? What forgetful, almost intangible thing have we touched, altered? The way-back past was not very colorful. What happened to those meager colors?

I wrote this on a prompt to describe an aspect of yourself. I wear lots of brown: I love the color. People know me for it. So I wrote an ode to one of the reasons why Iove it: how its magnificence now sits on the back burner.

  • Often, I'll find myself having to think to myself "what am I thinking of?" because ideas run through my head like they're running a marathon and competing to gain dominance in my thoughts. I find that writing it down makes my life smoother, a little more colorful.
