Sociology

Clara C.

  • This experimental film is my interpretation of the poem “Sociology,” by James Galvin (shown below). The music is Ron Drotos’s cover of “Revolution 9” on piano, used with permission.

    “Sociology” by James Galvin

    “A small white

    Envelope appeared under the door

And it was the beginning of the world.

    No one opened it

Which brings us to the present.

    A fly hits the windowscreen

    Like a distant pistol shot.

    We fall asleep

And the story being read us

    Keeps going,

    About an otherwise young man

    Who turns suddenly white

While buying an orange on the street.

    Paradise of ashes, fragrant nights,

The sun doesn’t know what time it is

    Or up from down.

    Don’t cry,

In the story it is nice out

    And they eat some soup.

    Under the door

    A small white envelope appears

    And they open it."

  • To explore my creativity is to discover who I am as an individual.
