Salient

I started creating art about how humans experience trauma because I was overwhelmed by the scale of suppressed suffering occurring in hidden pockets of the world. My ideas often sprouted from literature I was reading at the time on internal moral conflict, mortality, and identity.
I worked on Salient for eight months before finishing. Rendering graphite is, at its core, a test of patience, and I often found creating this work forced me to slow down and trust a final result would emerge. I aimed to capture the decay of youthful innocence through a connection to nature: with shattered realities and dead old-selves comes growth and rebirth.

Creativity is my reaction to the world around me. It is translating the abstract into the tangible, uprooting artistry in the mundane, and finding universality in private experiences.
