Raspberry Stains

Scarlett D.

  • I am inspired by the natural world around me. I write my best poems when I'm hiking or exploring the woods. My work is influenced by Mary Oliver and Emily Dickinson. I believe both of these poets had an intimate understanding of the world and its small but wondrous intricacies. When writing poetry it is most important to obverse the world around you and then use this knowledge to capture the breadth of life you are working towards. Some of my favorite subjects include the moon, redwoods and flowers. By having a deep understanding of myself, I am able to expand my emotional intelligence and be more empathetic towards others. Poetry helps me accomplish this.

  • I love using my imagination to delve deeper into the aspects of life that are more mystical. By doing this I'm exploring parts of my inner self and world that help me act more compassionate towards. I love writing poetry specifically because it allows such a broad range of expression to take place.
