Promising. Young. Woman.

Asha B.

  • Most of my poetry is very personal and mostly fueled by my emotions at a given moment. This particular poem however is not inspired by personal experience but from a movie I watched called Promising Young Woman. I often use descriptive imagery, metaphors, and similes in my work; while some of these are present in this piece, I chose to focus on punctuation, capitalization, and line spacing as another way to emphasize parts of the poem as well. In addition, I did have to change the line spacing of the poem from its original form so that it fit the double spaced requirements for this competition. The subject of this poem also falls into a common theme of my poems which is feminism.

  • Finding creative ways to express my feelings, inner thoughts, and understandings of the world has always been a crucial part of my identity and contributions to my community. To me, art is not only a way to share who I am, but also a way for me to fight against injustice I see in the world.
