Owen 360 Animation

Ivan A.

  • This drawing was of one of my original characters named Owen who started off as a simple front face view drawing but then I looked back at it for a while and I wanted to challenge myself into turning him into a 360 degree spin animation of my character. To do this I used an IPad, apple pencil, and an app called procreate. So to do an animation I had to create a few layers stacking up on top of the original and they were each named something for example, a sideview. To do the sideview I used something called onion skinning which allowed me to view the previous layer without switching to another layer. This was helpful because now I was able to see the previous layer and make a side view of my character. Then I was required to do another side view so to make things simple I copy and pasted the other side view and rotated it to face it the opposite way. The same can be said for the back view since I could just switch up the front view and rotate it but obviously change proportions like the shoes and hands. And lastly I needed to cover up what could be in between the front facing to side view to back and to side view again. To do that it is essentially the same process, use onion skin to look at previous layer and also now the forward layer and now draw what is in between both layers and that is all. Now you press play and all the layers I did coexist and now make my character rotate a full 360 degrees.

  • Drawing lets me express myself in a way that makes me feel free. Everyday I like to draw how I feel on that particular day, especially when implementing them on my original characters. Drawing allows me to create a new world, a world that I am excited to share with others.
