Oneirataxia

  • When you have a moment, I would encourage you to search up the meaning of Oneirataxia because that was my main inspiration behind this piece.

I intended for this photo to have many different interpretations, and thankfully I achieved that well. I have even gone around to ask many who are in different stages of life and who have different outlooks on life and it never ceases to amaze me how people can have differing interpretations of the same artwork. This piece made me realize how objective art is and the value that each piece has.

I honestly struggled with this piece, retaking and shooting it multiple times, in multiple places just to get the vibe I was going for.

I wanted to bring nature in because to me, it represents new beginnings. For portions of the year, it becomes barren, but it always manages to come back beautiful as ever.

To me, this piece represents someone looking in the mirror and realizing that the person they see does not correlate with real life, hence the discoloration. Some others I have asked have said; it’s like a portal to a new world, an escape; A new beginning or look; some kind of connection trying to be made between two people; and many more.

Making art and evoking emotion by expressing something through my hands is so beautiful to me and is exactly how I use my camera to continue on my creative journey.

  • Creativity is having this pounding feeling, this burning vision that you want to put into the world. It’s that rush you get when that vision comes to life. It's knowing that you have the ability to create it, and breathe life into it.
