Natural Tradition

Bryan O.M.

  • Idea(s): Dia de Los Muertos skull, this piece displays a relationship between death and nature (life) and how one cannot exist without the other. This is a magical and colorful representation of this cultural tradition.

Material(s): Air-dry clay, paper, glue, a variety of acrylic paint, wire, and paper mache.

Process(es): The inside of the sculpture is made out of newspaper and glue, and everything around it is made of clay that dries with air. The base color is white acrylic paint and the color waves are made of acrylic paint markers (posca), the wings of the firefly are paper and their antennae are black wire.

  • Being bilingual is not enough for everything I want to express. However, art is a language without words that facilitates information and creative ideas. It cannot have words just feelings and being able to do this only with clay, paint colored pencils is such a privilege.
