Motherhood

Hannah M.

  • This piece was originally prompted by my teacher, Ms. Gray. Our class was given the instructions to build an animal with character. I knew I wanted to make an elephant because I am inspired by their unique shape and personality. Female elephants never leave their herd, and they look out for each other. The subject in the piece is holding her baby in her trunk, representing her desire to always support and protect it. I felt a connection to the elephants because they remind me of my mother who I love.

  • As soon as I was old enough to hold a crayon, I always had one in my hand. Soon I graduated to pencils, painting, and collage. Recently, I picked up hand building with clay, and it has turned into an outlet. I depend on clay to help me process life and all it encompasses.
