My favorite show for the last few years has consistently been The Office. My teacher prompted us to draw a distorted portrait using charcoal. So I narrowed my options down to drawing my favorite character in all of TV and portraying an expression that I think is iconic to his persona. This prompt was a totally new concept for me so it took some extra planning as to how I was going to go about this. I finally came up with a grid method where I could mirror a photo of Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell, and distort each cell to how I wanted the proportions to relate to each other. It was also the first time I attempted to use charcoal as a drawing medium. I tried to convey the image of Michael Scott looking through a magnifying glass. This piece is one of my favorite artworks that I've made because there were several moments when I had absolutely no idea where I was going, my teacher kept assuring me to trust the process and in the end, I really liked how it turned out. I really enjoyed learning the different techniques in charcoal art and it opened up a whole new art world for me.

I'm not a morning person, at least academic-wise. For two years now, art class has been my second period which means three times a week, I start my mornings without the stress of articulating numbers or using much logic. It's made a big difference in my mood and how I go about the rest of the day.
