How it Feels to Die

“How it Feels to Die,” is a short story based on the struggles of mental health. The sudden breaks in the story indicate how disease can morph and shift, especially when it is not physical. It expressed the emotions of grief and anger; how denial of pain can lead to mania and self-doubt. I wanted to show how anxiety and depression can progress in a person. At a point, it will peak, and without accepting it will not be better. Throughout the piece, there is a feeling of betrayal, which makes the ending hold more power when it is revealed that the person this girl is reaming, is herself. This story is meant to express that not all suffering is external. That sickness derives from the mind and grows with denial. Moreover, “How it Feels to Die,” is a piece meant to encapture how a sick mind can destroy a life, and without help, there can be no recovery.
