Garden of Glass

Sneha Y.

  • I was inspired by the garden on campus has been a safe space for me where I have taken classes, eaten lunch, a place I can relax with friends and I enjoy the fresh food grown there. I decided to create a stained glass vase inspired by the stone pieces and artwork in the garden. I used slabs to create the base of the piece. I aimed for a unique shape by creating a slanted top and a hole in the middle. I wanted the stained glass pieces to pop from the piece so I made them 3D pieces on top of the base. When choosing the glazes I wanted to continue to make the smaller pieces pop so I chose a dark background with brighter pieces on top. I also chose colors on opposite sides of the color palates to create a more captivating piece.

  • Creating ceramic pieces not only gives me a fun and creative outlet but also helps me refine my skills in other areas including decision making, refining my work throughout the brainstorming process and learning that perfection is not the goal when creating art.
