This ghazal could be interpreted as a believer's exploration of their religion or a reflection of a queer relationship, both impeded on by societal norms. It's an expression of my queerness, South Asian heritage, and Muslim background. Like the artists and activists who inspired me to be myself, my goal with writing is to help others become comfortable in their own skin.

Channeling my creativity through writing is like breathing. I need to express what I'm feeling and thinking in order to be at peace with myself. I'm not always able to do that outside of art, so writing is essential in being proud of all parts of my identity without compromising.
