For Buddy

Claire A.

  • "For Buddy," is about a girl who is struggling with the death of her recently deceased dog, Buddy. To process his death she continues the 5 AM dog walking routine they once shared. Each day she brings with her Buddy's old collar and a sandwich to quietly eat under a tree while she watches the other dogs at the park. One day she sees a man grieving with his own dog's collar and makes the decision to approach him. She offers him her sandwich, he accepts, and they sit next to each other silently, both mourning the deaths of their dogs while moving towards acceptance.

I came up with the idea for this film shortly after my family dog had passed away. I had a hard time processing the emotions that came with that and created this film.

  • Filmmakers can shift and focus the audience’s attention in a completely immersive way. Walking out of a theater in awe or closing a laptop astonished, thrills me. Because film is not only entertainment, but meaningful social discourse, it can create an everlasting impact that I hope to achieve.
