Fight-Climb Mashup by Rachel Platten and Miley Cyrus

Jill A.

  • Our mashup of Climb by Miley Cyrus and Fight Song by Rachel Platten stemmed from a simple harmony we created during a choir rehearsal. We could never even imagine what it would eventually come to be. After being introduced to this competition we thought it could be a good submission. After arranging the mashup in the way we liked, we then had to find someone who could transpose it for us. Luckily a good friend of ours was able to do it on short notice, and did a phenomenal job. We met and rehearsed with his composition a few times, and our other generous friend, who is very skilled in the cinematic arts department, offered to help us film. After filming a couple takes, we finally got it. Our gratefulness and appreciation to the two gentlemen who helped us, is unlimited. They helped us without even asking for anything.

Our mashup is a representation of hard-work, determination, and teamwork. Rachel Plattens’ Fight Song is a constant reminder to never give up on yourself, others, and your dreams. No matter how much one fails, they should get back up and keep trying. Miley Cyrus’, The Climb expresses the notion, that although we face many obstacles and challenges we must remember to enjoy the journey. The songs undertones express that in order to achieve your goals, you have to encounter some obstacles, but that's the beauty of the adventure. It is not how long it takes you to get up there, just as long as you don't give up. These two songs worked cohesively together because they both painted pictures of enjoyment, success, and growth. This song was personal for all of us because we all are interested in working in entertainment industry, which is a very competitive environment. And these song are perfect examples of what we must always remember while working towards our dreams. We wanted our mashup to illuminate the essence of constant belief in yourself, others, and your goals, and also remembering to enjoy the journey as well.

  • By exploring and expressing our creativity through song, we view the world through the lens of music. Song is an eye-opening experience and is our way to pry away from demanding everyday life. Song has given us so much throughout our lives, and we are very grateful to have it.
