Escape to Fantasy

Tra N.

  • I often find myself enraptured by imaginary worlds, be it from art, games, or books. There's something so fascinating about the idea of a place that isn't real but is so artfully strung together that it makes you feel, even if it's just for a second, like it could actually exist. The best part is the sense of exploration that comes with an interesting book; you are constantly being pulled through emotions that you might not regularly feel, traveling to enchanting places, and meeting new people. As someone who doesn't consider social interactions her strong suit, reading is like a way for me to escape reality and make new encounters that I wouldn't have the courage to in real life. The piece I created illustrates my younger self's first encounter with this feeling, as she sees the characters from the book she is reading come to life.

  • Expressing my creativity through painting lets me translate the emotions and fantasies that float through my mind into a visual language that can be shared with others.
