Doorknob

Felicia L.

  • While walking across Schenley Bridge, I observed an abundance of locks fastened to it. I felt the yellow metal fence juxtaposed with the openness of the clear blue sky represented the difficult obstacles standing before a world of opportunities. Instead of following the popular practice of attaching locks to fences, the doorknob challenges the idea that one has to stay locked on a certain path. To me, a lock represents certainty and eternity. The doorknob suggests the act of opening a door to a world of opportunity rather than locking away all other possibilities.

  • I started as a cellist and artist, and continue exploring other forms of creative expression. As a senior stressing about planning my future, I stay grounded through the chaos by engaging in arts, from photography to dance. Practicing arts will always be a place for me to release and feel at home.
