Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing by S. Wonder

Sarai J.O.

  • This is one of the songs that immensely helped me develop my vocal agility. When I was younger, I really loved hearing the version of this song by Tori Kelly after watching the movie "Sing" a few years ago. I was completely blown away by the way it was interpreted and I still remember hearing it for a long time on repeat after this. Since then, I have often listened to it and practiced it, especially whenever I am preparing for a big performance or before recording my own pieces. This is one of my favorite songs because it allows me to discover new vocal runs each time I sing it. In terms of learning the guitar accompaniment, as an experienced guitarist, getting this part together took me lesser time. I was excited to explore new positions while using a capo and primarily utilizing 7th chords. Typically I'll use bar chords or different shapes for these chords, but for this performance, I wanted to take a different path. Additionally, I usually don't utilize a capo to perform but this time I wanted to try something new, and it was fun! Overall, I truthfully enjoyed the whole process of preparing for this performance as it was something that I had wanted to do for quite some time and I finally had the opportunity to accomplish it.

  • Exploring and expressing my creativity has always provided me with positivity and open-mindedness that impact how I persevere through hardships. As a first-generation Mexican American with immigrant parents, I have encountered multiple setbacks, but art always helps me find myself again every time.
