Away From It All

  • Lauren and I created our artwork on Adobe Photoshop. This was a project for our multimedia art class. Our objective was to create a surreal composite cohesive in impression and mood.

In the beginning, we had difficulty coming up with something. One indecisive person + another indecisive person = nothing getting done. To us, surreal art looks like a bunch of nonsense, but at the same time it makes all the sense in the world. I remember after adding something to this art piece, I would always say, "Hmm, this looks... strange. Weird." Lauren would never fail to respond with, "Yeah, that's kind of the point." Surreal art has a message that everyone can emphasize with, but portrays it in a confusing way.

We made this piece to represent an escape from reality. Here, there are no laws, no pressure and expectations, but most importantly, no limits. There's even a city in the clouds!

  • Art is an outlet for us. When things get stressful, we need something to turn to and take comfort in. A lot of other students are that way too. They take art because it's a relaxing class, a break from school. Once we put on our headphones and focus on the assignment, all of our worries leave.
