And Now She's Gone

Claire B.

  • I wrote this short story a little while ago when I was thinking about an old friend. I really liked the rough draft I began with and I continued to workshop the story, taking out and adding new parts. While the narrative changed throughout the process, the characters stayed generally the same. I think this is because I really connected with the protagonist, and the character Lainie represented a lot of the people in my life. At the end of my creative process, I ended with another short story about a young adult and her grief and guilt over her best friend's suicide. This piece is about similar events that happened at the time that I wrote it and the concern I had for a couple old friends. "And Now She's Gone" was an outlet for my worry and a warning to myself to not let any of my old friends hurt themselves.

  • I use expressing and exploring my creativity as an outlet for my emotions, and it helps me to be a more happy and balanced person. When I am creative, I feel a sense of personal accomplishment and I am freed from my worries.
