Always Second, Mistake of Haiku, and A Lament for Larry

Ben L.

  • My personal favorite poem, "Mistake of Haiku", was created after reading one of my favorite novels, "Orconomic: A Satire". This book opened my eyes and made me understand that parody doesn't need to be subtle. I had been struggling to make haikus given the strict limitation of the form, so I took inspiration from the book and created a poem to satire the haiku format while embodying its form, while still working as a haiku of sorts.

  • My creativity allows me to escape reality, if only for a minute, and tell stories about the world around me through poetry or photos. Through art, I can connect to other likeminded artists and spread ideas.
