A Look Back

This piece, titled "A Look Back", explores the daunting feeling of growing up. I decided to use colored pencils because of the texture it creates, as well as the detail it allowed me to include. The stairs at the top left represent looking towards the future in contrast to the image of the two children, who represent reminiscing in the simplicity of the past. At the center is the present, an overwhelmed version of myself in limbo, being pulled in the direction of both the future and past. The images depicting the three tenses overlap and flow with each other, showing the fluidity of time, and how our lives follow this rhythm. I want viewers to reflect on their own experience of change, as well as explore the possibilities of what's to come.

Exploring my creativity has inspired me to learn more about my culture and background. When expressing myself I often turn to Korean and Filipino elements and traditions for inspiration. It makes me feel more in touch with my heritage, and it also gives me an outlet to let out my emotions.
