A January Snow

  • Title: A January Snow

    Medium: Digital Photography

My photo "A January Snow" depicts pine needles with drops of dew on their tips and a snowy tree in the background. It was taken in mid-morning in early January at Yosemite National Park. When doing photography, I tend to gravitate toward images with a shallow depth of field, or a clear subject with a blurry background, and I wanted to capture that effect with this image. Seeing Yosemite Park in the winter time, covered in snow changed my perspective of the park and awed me. Being mid-morning when I took this picture, the rainfall and dew from the previous night was still present on the plants, and I wanted to also capture the translucent droplets the moment they were hanging precariously off their needles. Also, I wanted to capture the duality of states of water; solid snow on the leaves and in the background, and the liquid water droplets.

When editing this photo, I simply increased the brightness and contrast using Photoshop to make the image clearer and more visually pleasing. This photo was taken using a Nikon Coolpix P900.

  • I didn't consider myself a creative person coming into this school year, but after enrolling in the multimedia art course at my school I have discovered my creativity. Exploring my creativity in different mediums allows me to explore my interests and gives me sense of individuality and freedom.
