Weightless

  • "Growing up I always had an interest in domestic arts like cooking, baking, sewing, and crocheting, which were taught to me by my amazing grandmother. Only recently I am getting into Ceramics, learning from Mx. Landowski at College Park High School.

My project is a ceramic ‘Pandora’s box’ with a twist. Instead of being filled with the suffering of humanity, it symbolizes what humanity needs to thrive, freedom. My box is covered in clouds, which symbolize feeling weightless and carefree. Additionally all the edges are smooth and give it a softer appearance. Aside from these sculpted details, each side of my box is glazed to show a different time of day, relating to the progression of a human's life, starting at dawn and ending at dusk. However the clouds stay throughout this passage of time, symbolizing the possibility of freedom is always there."

  • Creativity to me is expressing yourself through your creations. It's taking risks and liberties that make your imagination come to life, and learning what works, what doesn't. This gives you experience and the tools needed to show your thoughts, identity, and inner feeling.
