Tigerlily

Alexandra B.W.

  • I like that flowers have a sort of unique shape and color to them, and, having just gotten into the language of flowers and flower meanings, was inspired to personify them. This piece is based off of tigerlilies, which symbolize confidence, so I aimed to create someone with a quiet self assuredness and almost mystery, colorful but with shades of realism. I painted it in procreate, and, having used my own face for a fair bit of the reference, ended up with a sort of altered self portrait as well.

  • Creativity is looking at the world and seeing something different than the person next to you. It’s about being uniquely yourself in your expression, about finding your voice amid a cacophony of voices and deciding to shout. It’s about compelling interpretation: idea and story.
