Out of the Silence

I have put much effort into this artwork, taking more than 92 hours to complete I have gone on a journey and learned some interesting things about myself which I strive to do when I begin a piece of great importance. I named this piece “Out Of The Silence” which is inspired by my favorite orchestra piece of the same name composed by William Grant Still. I chose to name this piece “Out Of The Silence” because of the hard effort I put into this art work. What began as an idea, evolved from blank white poster paper and simple supplies made up of graphite, charcoal, white chalk, and black pastel. This artwork is special to me because visually the simplistic color of black and white describes so much about myself. I am a musician of many instruments but the cello, which is what is depicted in this artwork, is my passion. I have learned to serve others and give the joy of hearing and the feelings of music to my family and community by performing. I have played cello for 9 years and have plans to continue this passion for the rest of my life. This piece started from a photo which i modeled in. I was inspired by my cello teacher to create something that would embody myself within my art work. Weeks before this creation my cello teacher and I had a rigorous 2 week long cello study which I can honestly say was difficult, exhausting, and overwhelming because playing cello is not easy. Even after 9 years I still have so much to learn about this instrument. I had been broken down and exhausted my fingers from playing. I wanted to visualize the feeling I get from all the work, effort, time, postures, intonation, bow hold, tuning and every little detail that makes all the difference when playing this beautiful instrument. The pain I endured to keep my passion alive and over all serve others with the magic of music. It was difficult but it made me so happy and proud of myself that I had the opportunity to work with my teacher to become a better musician. After I had finished the center picture of my artwork I ripped pages from an old cello solo book of mine and created a background. I glued the illustration to the background and framed the work in a picture frame where it now lives hung from my wall. This work is personal and is important to me because of the meaning behind it. I hope your enjoy my art work as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Creativity is embodying our minds vision. Throughout our daily lives we are inspired by moments captured in our minds eye. Sometimes we hold on to these moments and wish to express them through our art. While drawing on paper our minds express these moments and out flows the creativity.
