Grace by C. Graham

Kai S.

  • Calum Graham's "Grace" sounds laidback and relaxing, yet it has a strong connection to the concept of time - the way it moves continuously, like a river bending to its surroundings but also sculpting its environment. Time has always fascinated me, because of the limits it places on us, setting a tempo that clicks with an unbearable speed, in the same direction, continuously.

While playing this piece, I try channel this laidback yet constantly moving feel by imagining wave-like patterns. Ocean waves capture this perfectly, as they are repeating patterns while also giving off a beach vibe many can nap to.

  • Creativity in music comes from the musician as well as the listener. The musician encrypts an emotion or memory in the way they play or write music, while the listener decrypts the music using the key of their own life experience.
