ghosts & chills

After being stuck at home during the COVID pandemic, I began to notice small things around my house; the scratched paint on our banister was the inspiration for my poem "ghosts". The lockdown forced me to reflect on the ways that I've changed and lost my innocence since I was younger.
I wrote "chills" in the fall of 2019 after wildfires and blackouts had ravaged California. It's a poem about my longing for the past as we look forward to a future of climate disaster. It illustrates a mixture of hope and hopelessness I think many young people are feeling about the planet's future.

Writing allows me to be vulnerable and explore my emotions in new ways. Seeing other people’s creativity shows us the universality of our human experience, as well as the unique aspects of our experience. In our rapidly changing world, creativity promotes reflection, empathy, and human connection.
