Flute Concertino by C. Chaminade

Clay C.

  • This piece was written in 1902 by Cecile Chaminade, one of the most well-known female classical composers, and is one of the most popular flute pieces among students today. Allegedly, she wrote the piece to humiliate her flautist ex-boyfriend after he left her and married someone else by making the piece so difficult that he would not be able to play it. I really enjoy playing this piece because of all of the contrasting emotions that it features and I have been working on it for almost a year. To accommodate for the time limit, I only played the first section.

  • Creativity is an important part of my life; it allows me to express myself through activities such as music and art. When playing music, understanding the piece through my own interpretations allows me to express a variety of emotions and feelings, and it is rewarding to translate notes into sound.
