My submission is an arrangement I recently made for my sibling string quartet. I first started making arrangements for string trios and then later for string quartets. When my siblings and I were younger we were a string trio and we wanted to play Edelweiss from The Sound of Music but there weren't any arrangements for two violins and cello readily available. After much research the arrangements I found were either too simplified or didn't actually sound like the real piece. I decided to make my own which although was a lot of work was extremely fun and rewarding as everyone liked to play and listen to this arrangement. The process has seemed to be never ending as my siblings and I are constantly changing and refining things whenever we play it. To begin the process, I wrote down the melody on paper and then added the bass line (cello) and an accompaniment for violin 2. I tried to make it as close to the original as I could. I then tried it with my siblings and together we decided to switch things around so that we could all have turns taking the melody. We also played it for our chamber coach who also had a few changes. As we started learning more in our composition and theory classes we realized that we could make better voice leadings. When my younger brother joined our group as a violist we wanted to be able to play this arrangement as a quartet so I added a viola part. This was actually more difficult than it seems because I had already tried to make it sound as if it were a quartet without a viola. It wasn't as simple as just adding a viola part. I had to practically start over so that there weren't any strange leaps or crossings in the inner voices. In the end I was very happy with how it turned out. It is also the perfect encore for us as a family quartet
