Wonderland

Leah L.

  • Relationships have always been at the center of my life. From exploring imaginary worlds with other little girls dressed in fairy costumes to crafting with my grandmother on her screen porch, relationships have laid the foundation for my identity. As I moved into adolescence, trying to find my place in a more and more polarized world, I began to learn about the complexity and fragility of mature relationships. As I played with many different poetic forms, I often found myself coming back to the people in my life and my experiences in relationships as the primary themes of my work. In the past few years, I have become aware of how much the reading of other peoples’ poetry can evoke for me insights and feelings into my own life and I hope that, in some small way, something in my poems might do that for you.

  • I find creativity, specifically writing poetry to be a tool for me to process emotions that I often did not even know I was feeling. I often return back to heartbreak and grief through the process of writing/being creative helps me to process and understand the world around me.
