I’m investigating an in-depth, personal inquiry that relates to my identity as a queer person. “How do my past relationships affect my current identity?” is the question I’m focusing on in my new work. I’m tackling this query by selecting several key concepts from my past that relate to my identity today, such as my relationships with gender, family, religion, and pain. Another focus of my investigation is developing the way I portray skin with tone and color. I’m inspired by Lucian Freud, who was known for his unique depiction of human skin. This piece is the first in this year’s portfolio to represent these focuses.

I strive for my art to be a reflection of my core values, interpretations of the world around me, and expression of my identity. Creativity enables me to bring all this together and share it with others.
