What’s Been Lost

Emory E.

  • How do we distinguish what moments from our lives have shaped who we are? Reflecting on my life and all the memories I have, most of which I’ll likely forget, there are some I know won’t fade that changed the way I choose to live my life. In 2018, my grandma was diagnosed with lung cancer. For two years I watched her fade in and out, until she passed away in 2020. My family lived with my grandparents her last month. I knew the pain that they hid from me, their whispers, and concerns, and stories, and I learned from them to value every moment that I had, because one day, I’d be out of moments, out of stories, like she was. Losing her, I lost a part of me. This piece represents the light that she was in my life, and the gaping hole left when she was gone.

  • My camera is a gateway for me to step out of my comfort zone and explore from a third-party perspective. Photography is not only how I express myself, but it also guides me to find my passion, learn from the wonderful life, and ultimately implement change.
