Us

Toyin O.

  • This poem is about the black people minority. It is a topic I feel strongly about and find no better way than to express it in a poem. It shows how black people persevere. The poem talks about slavery and how we can change the world by not repeating the same mistakes. It talks about how blacks were notorious for their work rather than who they are. The metaphor at the end about crystals means that black people fight back with all they have to come up from all of their pain and make a difference. The poem is called Us because I am part of this minority and want to represent the Black community for who it is. Working together in a collective way is what makes a difference in the world. Hope, love, and prayer are the three ways I believe we can do this.

  • To me, creativity means ‘thinking outside the box.’ It means thinking in a way that is unique in the manner it is portrayed or said. It’s an innovative style of showing others how you think. Creativity shows the capabilities of the mind and how it works.
