In my self-portrait, I explore the balance between my Mexican heritage and my journey as a young immigrant in the U.S. Looking over my shoulder symbolizes reflection and a connection to my roots, drawing strength from my mother, depicted in the background. She embodies hope and the sacrifices that shape who I am. The repetition of lines represents the unending struggles of balancing my Mexican identity with the challenges of adapting to a new life in the U.S. These repeated forms echo the ongoing process of growth and resilience in navigating two cultures. The headband I wear signifies female empowerment, my commitment to embracing my identity and the voices of women in my culture. It symbolizes my determination to break barriers and honor the women who paved the way for me. Iconic Mexican landmarks like Chichen Itza ground me in my heritage, reinforcing my connection to my roots.
