“My eyeball fell out!” Almost in unison, a roomful of second graders swiveled their heads and screamed. My prosthetic eye, a memento of my retinoblastoma, had rolled onto the storytime rug. As a kid, I loved showing my eye off. Now, when it comes to photography, my one-sided vision helps me see the world in a new way. I’ve had to learn to use a camera differently than others, but that has allowed me to take photos others might miss. To me, this orb represents the value of seeing life through a different lens. Each person sees the world in a unique way that distorts reality. Considering different perspectives can ignite sparks that create change for the better.

Creativity is trying to better understand the world. Whether we’re exploring ourselves through art, showcasing the world for others, or thinking of innovative ways to solve a problem, humans have this wonderful natural tendency to make sense of the world by creating our own little universes.
