As a student from an Asian immigrant background, I often feel overwhelmed by the constant bombardment of assignments, expectations, and pressures. This piece reflects the weight of being told that hard work will lead to a brighter future, even as my motivation withers. I wanted to capture the sensation of drowning in papers, where success feels distant, yet relentless effort is demanded. It’s a personal exploration of the conflict between societal expectations and individual exhaustion—where all I can do is keep my eyes on that unattainable future, hoping it’s worth the struggle.

Creativity means freedom; it means choosing what I want and not what others expect of me; it’s an opportunity to highlight unconventional ideas or ideas that are meaningful to you. In photography, creativity means evoking emotions in a way words can’t.
