Swiss Landscape

I was studying pointillism as part of a school course and chose to paint a Swiss landscape loosely based on a photograph I had taken in the Alps in an interpretation of the pointillist style. I first drew a charcoal sketch of the landscape, and then an oil pastel true pointillist thumbnail to decide on color palette and proportioning. I decided that the focal point of the painting should be the front of the house, to express how in nature, human interruptions stick out like a sore thumb. Yet this piece also serves to remind us that anthropocentric engineering isn’t the only way to habitate a landscape, buildings can also complement their surroundings and elevate the beauty of the environment.

Creativity means drawing inspiration from the outside world and producing an idea that alters that inspiration through your own personal belief system and experiences.
