Swing

Quincy H.

  • This piece was taken on Medium Format B&W film, on a Yashica Mat 124G with Ilford Delta 400. It was taken this summer, in the South of France, where my grandparents live. Recently, my Aunt had a kid Named Nil. This print is of my mother, and my cousin at the swing set in my grandparents’ back yard. During the summer, I am able to freely take pictures because I have so much more free time. This summer, my family and I discovered that Nil loves the swing set, it’s all she wanted to do this summer. I took this as an opportunity to make art, to connect my family with my art. When taking the picture, I placed the subjects in a natural frame of leaves and shadow to enhance composition. Shots like this remind me that photography is such an amazing tool for capturing beautiful moments like this.

  • Creativity in my mind is very vague. But recently, with the help of my mentors in my program, I have realized that creativity is the expression of one’s passion. More specifically, it’s a gateway for someone to show their emotion or experience to the world.
