Sea Swallow me

Emily S.

  • I wrote Sea Swallow Me to capture my struggle with stress and mental health, it depicts being consumed by emotions beyond my control. The girl on the shore, battered by the relentless waves, reflects the constant battle with anxiety, depression, and the pressure of everyday life. She fights the tide at first, but the waves keep crashing, symbolizing how mental health battles can feel unrelenting and exhausting. Her surrender to the sea represents the breaking point, when the fight becomes too much, and letting go feels like the only option. As she sinks deeper, there’s a brief sense of peace, a release from the struggle. But the exhaustion sets in, and she forgets how to breathe, echoing the feeling of losing yourself when stress overwhelms you. This piece explores the tension between resistance and surrender, and the fleeting moments of stillness that come with mental exhaustion.

  • To me, creativity is the ability to connect to others through personal expression.
